How to Make a Good First Impression in Your Career Networking - Hire Imaging
The most effective method to Make a Good First Impression in Your Career Networking - Hire Imaging In my last post, I shared a few considerations on who to target when profession organizing â" regardless of whether you're clear or to some degree fuzzy on your objectives. When somebody has consented to talk, make it advantageous, by establishing a decent first connection and keeping their consideration. You do this by conveying on what you guaranteed, which is either: A discussion that triggers questions and significant info, which causes them to feel accommodating about chatting with you or educating another person concerning you. An investigation between their necessities and your capabilities. Present yourself as somebody with important aptitudes, valuable information, useful experience, and excitement. Speak with ready significance. At the point when you talk about yourself, don't raise everything about, not all things are pertinent. The significance relies upon what you need to do straightaway! Significance. It's a significant word here! It's simply the way to advertising in your new vocation. A lot of data overpowers individuals. Significant data causes you impact individuals by they way you need them to see you. Regardless of whether you are plunking down for espresso with somebody to get their feedback, or are in a meeting and asked, Enlighten me concerning yourself, the individual opposite you needs to know six things: Is it accurate to say that you are a decent person I can trust and would need to recruit or allude to individuals I know? For what reason would you say you are in this situation, needing a vocation in whatever job or field? What were you doing before this? What do you think about and what have you done to set yourself up for this vocation? What are your key qualities or most agreeable abilities? What would you like to do now, and how dedicated right? Chat human to human. You need to have a discussion that doesn't sound remembered or practiced. Try not to work it out in exactly the same words. On the off chance that you do, you'll be centered around recalling. What's more, contingent upon who you're conversing with, you'll have to adjust content. Filling what you state with important (that word once more) data that is dowsed with your craving for why you need this vocation is your need here. My customer, Jim, was a data innovation venture director who was organizing for an occupation with an espresso chain. In the initial ten minutes of his gathering with an establishment proprietor in that business, he stated, I have no café experience, yet I have more fire, a superior hard working attitude, and more want than anybody you'll meet! He found the opportunity to clarify more, yet fire is the thing that snared the espresso business contact. Make a diagram that incorporates snippets of data you plug in or forget about; and that allows you to expand, contingent upon the conditions. The pieces may incorporate any of the over six focuses. Get somewhat enthusiastic. You may have the certifications, training, and skill for your next profession, however on the off chance that you can't release a little energy, it will be harder to persuade individuals to help you en route or, in the long run, extend to you an employment opportunity. Try not to be reluctant to communicate your excitement, through your words and eagerness for what you need to do straightaway and why you need to do it. Utilize passionate language. It's alright to look at somebody without flinching and state, I love helping kids learn or I'm moved to need to give back or I feel so emphatically about creation this change, I've committed the following year of my life toward finishing accreditation and winning hands-on understanding. In my next post, I'll share manners by which to convey on the six pieces referenced in this post! I generally love to get notification from you! If you don't mind remark beneath.

Build a Better Business Card - Copeland Coaching
Build a Better Business Card Your business card is a critical piece of your brand. Its right up there with the suit you wear to your interview. So often, I attend networking events where I meet new and interesting people. People I want to stay in touch with afterward. Unfortunately, it can be tough to do. Why? you might ask. Well, not everyone has a business card. Or, more accurately, not everyone brings a business card. The reason this happens can vary, but the two biggest excuses for not having one are: I dont have a job right now and I forgot. Im not sure which is worse: being out of work, or being lazy. If you dont have a job, take heart. Its easy to create your own card. If you want to switch to a new profession, this applies to you too. Creating a new card is a great way to get people to think of you differently. Of the cards I do receive, some are amazing and well talk about what you can learn from the amazing cards that will help you. Some cards on the other hand totally bomb. A bad card can make it almost as hard to follow up as no card at all. Here are some of the common business card mistakes: Shiny paper The person you give your card to will want to make a note on it about how they met you, or something you talked about. When you use shiny cards, you take away their opportunity to do this. Strangely shaped cards Unusually shaped business cards can be fun for about 10 seconds. After that, the person youre giving your card to will try to put it in their wallet or business card holder. Theyll be left wondering what to do with it when your card doesnt fit. Too much information Keep your card simple and clean. Jamming your card full of information is only a good idea if its useful. And, chances are, if its filled with too much information, nobody will read it closely enough to know if its useful. Truth be told, I met a number of very interesting people at a recent networking event. Its what got me thinking about this topic. I collected a huge stack of business cards all people I intend to follow up with. But, when I went back to write notes on them and file the cards away, I ran into trouble. I couldnt write on many of the cards because they were a dark color on both sides. Many were slick. And, most were so packed full of so much information, there was nowhere to write. I literally had to find one of those permanent Sharpie markers to write on these cards. And, on many, you cant even see it! So, what can you do to build a better business card? Here are ten tips of what to do: Do include your name, your phone number, and your e-mail address. Dont add your picture unless you are a realtor. Print them on U.S. sized paper. Pick the plain Jane rectangle shape. Use relatively neutral color. Bright pink or green cards, for example, are distracting. If you dont have a job title, or if you want to change careers, leave out a job title. Dont include a logo unless you are a graphic designer or have one on retainer. Dont get too creative. This is a business card, not an art project. Leave space on the card where someone could take notes if they wanted to. Dont get the free cards that have some companys website listed on them. Your card should only advertise you. At most, business cards are about $50 for a box. Use an e-mail address that represents your personal brand well. An e-mail address that includes your favorite hobby, your birth year, or your nick name are not appropriate for a business card. Heres a sample of my business card. I hope it gives you a few ideas. If youve decided to make a card, but arent sure where to get them, there are a number of great websites you can check out. I dont advocate for one site or another, but my own cards are made with GotPrint.com. Moo.com also makes an excellent card if you want to go into sales or marketing. If you would like some in person assistance with your cards, check out a FedEx Office location. There are often people who will help you on site. I hope these tips have helped you. Networking Myths Vs The Reality
Networking Myths Vs The Reality In spite of the demonstrated value of networking as a primary job search technique, many people have a very hard time grasping the concept. They may recognize its value for other people, yet they do not think that they have the personal characteristics to put it all together. If you consider yourself one of the nervous networkers, you also probably think of yourself as a shy person, or at least around people that you do not know well, but you could find yourself under one or more incorrect myths surrounding networking. Myth Networking only works for outgoing brown-nosers. Fact People who are more inclined to strike up a conversation may feel more comfortable using networking than their more introverted counterparts, but this doesnt necessarily mean that they are any better. Introverted people typically have very valuable gifts at their disposal such as the capacity to listen well, ask thorough questions and succeed at follow-ups. Plus, networking becomes much easier the more you work at it. Like many emotional or mental challenges, it takes some time before youre completely comfortable. Most of the energy is spent at the beginning making the first couple of phone calls and setting up your initial meetings. But, as you gather momentum, it becomes much easier. Your networking may start off as a snowball, but once it gets rolling, it turns into an avalanche. Before contacting anyone, remind yourself that networking is an essential part of finding a job in todays America. Myth Only desperate and under-qualified people have to network. People who are good at their jobs can get them the traditional way, through only job boards or job listing ads. Fact Everyone has to look for employment throughout their careers. When you start off you did not immediately have a job, you had to look around and ask friends if they knew of anything. Many people go through this process several times. Smart and savvy jobseekers know that many of the best positions are not actively advertised and that highly qualified applicants put a lot more of their energy into networking than browsing the want ads. Networking is a smart way to find a job. Myth Its embarrassing to go around asking people for a job. Fact Everyone has done it. It may be embarrassing at the moment, but it wont be when you get that first pay check. The purpose of networking is not to beg. Its not even to ask for a job. You dont start networking expecting a job just to fall in your lap. You go in to learn about the position, the people and the company in your area. Myth Networkers are imposing on the people they ask. Fact If everyone was imposed on when they were asked for a job, no one would ever volunteer a position to their friends and colleagues. Many people that you will ask got their job through networking. They may have felt like they were imposing but they did what they had to do to find a job, just like you should. Dont count networking out as a viable job search technique. It may put you in the right spot at the right time. Writing Your Resume in the Third Person
Writing Your Resume in the Third PersonMany people fail to write a resume when they are required to do so in the third person. The reason for this is that most people don't know how to create this style. In this article I will explain how to accomplish this task. By doing so, you will be able to make your resume the best and effective one. When writing your resume in the third person, the focus is always on your employment history and nothing else. However, it should not be that simple. The first step is to have a proper vision of what your resume should look like. What does it look like as a whole? What do you want it to mean?Once you have answered these questions, you can start the writing process of your resume. This means that you have a clear picture of the types of things that your resume will need to cover. You can decide what topics you want to touch on and then determine where you would like the resume to end up. A resume that has been written with a clear picture of the end result is much more likely to be read and understood by a potential employer. For those who are writing their resumes in the third person, it is important to include in the summary something that relates to the most important aspects of your previous job. For example, if you were employed as a marketing specialist for a public relations firm, you may want to write your summary in the third person by mentioning the positions that you held. To make this all work, you can choose topics that are relevant to what you are attempting to tell someone. You might want to add something about the person who will be reading your resume, such as the time they worked in a marketing role, the products or services that they marketed, or a product that they sold, etc.Remember that a resume should never come across as too formal. It should always be professional but don't overdo it either. If you put too much information in your resume, it will appear as though you are trying to sell yourself to the em ployer. A little informal has it's place and it will definitely help you to get a good job interview.Another thing that you should avoid when writing your resume in the third person is using the word 'you' to describe yourself. It is acceptable to use the first person, however, and you can even include this as a part of your summary. However, do not use the third person all throughout your resume. Your summary should show that you have taken the time to provide information about yourself and your past experiences. When writing your resume in the third person, it is a good idea to take some time to make sure that you have the things you want to say clearly in mind. You should also make sure that you have adequate space to include your thoughts. Even though the summary is only a few lines, the more words that you use, the more difficult it will be to read. You should remember that when you are hiring a new employee, this is one of the most important factors that the company will be loo king at.So when writing your resume in the third person, it is important to take the time to plan the information and the format that you are going to use. If you do this you will have the best chance of getting the job. Remember that your resume is a reflection of who you are and the more you are prepared with the information that you want to include, the easier it will be to sit down and write your resume.

The Ten Best Professions For Introverts
The Ten Best Professions For Introverts The following is a guest post by Nelma Lumme. Her bio follows. As an introvert, you might be looking for solitary work that allows you to recharge your social batteries and give you a sense of personal haven. Introverts donât like to stand out and usually look for less crowded and quieter working and living environment. However, being quiet and standing by the side means that they can spot more details and choose their words and interactions carefully. Here are some of the best professions for introverts, that have potential for earning a good living. Freelance jobs The most obvious contenders on the list are freelance work positions that allow introverts to work online. Whether itâs design, accounting, data analysis, writing, or even an online secretary position â" introverts can easily find themselves in these roles. The reason for this is because they allow people to have a calm, safe and peaceful environment surrounding them while they do their jobs. They donât have to leave the house and go to work â" their work is always waiting for them online. Some of the best platforms on the web such as Upwork allow people to find whatever job description might make them feel whole as a person and help them earn a decent living. Graphic designer Graphic design has been around for a long time and it represents the visual shaping of an idea, objectifying its form in the real world. Introverts often opt for becoming professional graphic designers because it allows them to develop their creativity and tell the world how they really feel inside. Graphic design work is usually done from home and takes only minimal human contact outside of the work that a person is doing on their computer or a workstation. This, however, depends on a personâs involvement in a project and can vastly vary depending on the type of employment. Regardless of that fact, graphic design is one of the most popular professions among introverts and it continues to be just that thanks to the development of cloud technology and fast online data transfer. Night shift jobs While also known as the âgraveyard shiftâ, night shift jobs are very popular among solitary people looking for some peace and quiet. These jobs range from security guard posts, dinner servicing positions or even phone operator positions. Whatever type of work is involved is completely secondary â" the main point is that night is the time of day that everyone else uses for rest and sleep. That means that there are far fewer people going about and disturbing a peaceful environment that introverts are looking for. While other people might stray away from these jobs, introverts will wholeheartedly accept night shift positions as it allows them a solitary position which they love to inhabit every now and then. Writing Writing has evolved from its classical roots and became something much more extraordinary. While works of Dostoevsky, Proust, and Kafka are very influential even today, writing has taken the form of blog writing, article writing, or even freeform writing for personal pleasure. These are all perfect positions for introverts to find themselves in and express what they feel and think inside. While blogging takes a while to get going as a profession, introverts usually start off as small article writers and work for outside sources in order to gain revenue. Writers and freelancers today are known for using professional platforms to help them write the best possible content they can. On the top websites page many people around the world are able to put out quality content at a much faster rate than they usually would. Writing can be a very lucrative profession for introverts as it allows them to work whenever and wherever they feel like â" a very important trait for many shy and reserved people. Social media manager Managing social media for a company or a small firm is exactly what an introvert dreams of. This type of job offers people the possibility of learning new skills about marketing, online advertisement and social media management as a whole. Introverts love this sort of work because it makes them feel involved and they participate in every online interaction of a certain page and its followers. They can often comment, share and even communicate with the followers of a certain page without revealing their true identity â" a much sought after working demand with many introverts. Long-haul driver This is a perfect position for people who love the open road and donât mind staying away from home for extended periods of time. Many introverted people opt for becoming drivers of trucks and large rigs that allow them to stay in their cabin for weeks at a time without many human interactions along the way. Todayâs modern truck cabins are comfortable and well equipped and it makes it easy to stay alone for a longer period without missing out on anything. While it does require a certain degree of compromise on the introvertsâ side regarding the open nature of driving a truck across the continent, this is one of the most engaging positions an introvert can find themselves in. Programmer One of the most popular professions that many introverts take up is programming. It allows people to stay out of touch with the world for a much more extended period of time working out the kinks in their code and developing useful applications. Programmers are very highly paid in todayâs modern world due to the fact that being one is not an easy task. Learning about the programming languages and latest trends in the market is a very difficult task that many people fail to grasp in the beginning. Regardless of that, programming is still one of the best solutions for a profession for many introverts looking for an above decent living. Conclusion Being an introvert canât be easy â" especially when you have to start thinking like an adult and actually decide what your professions are going to be. With that said, there are a plethora of available positions made just for introverts and they are irreplaceable in these jobs. Finding out what works for you is a matter of personal choice and a life you want to live tomorrow. Many of these jobs will set you free as a person and help you overcome shyness and loneliness, making you more functional in the society in the progress. Choose for yourself and think about the future, the rest is out of your hands. About The Author Nelma Lumme is freelance blogger from Chicago, IL. For these reasons and many others, 1 in 3 people under forty has at least one tattoo. (They are actually an ancient art form dating back to the Egyptians who used them to control the supernatural.) In the future younger executives will replace older ones and the young ones will sport tattoos so it will become increasingly less of an issue in dress code and social reaction. But today, a general rule of thumb is: If your bossâs boss is showing his, you can too; if not, cover it. A professor said to me, âA tattoo is akin to wearing the same hairstyle for rest of your life.â That being said, if you have your reasons for getting oneâ"to feel sexy, be rebellious, for sentiment, or because you belong to the Church of Body Modification, then put thought into the following: -Try a temporary tattoo on as a test for awhile. -Select the spot on your body very carefully; make sure people canât see them unless you want them to. Avoid locations that canât be concealed by normal dress; stay away from your neck, fingers, or hands. One CEO put it flatly, âDonât bring generously tattooed arms to the office.â -Think about where you see yourself in ten years and ask yourself if the tattoo fits in the picture. Consider that it will likely limit you in some jobs if visible. You may not as quickly get on the corporate fast track or be nominated for Supreme Court judge. Also, consider who youâll be with. A friend had his girlfriendâs name âPatâ tattooed on his forearm. When he ended up married to Teresa he changed âPatâ to âBadâ because that was the best he and his artist could come up with! -Ask yourself, âIs this a piece of art Iâd like on my walls; if not, do I want it on my body?â -Picture it on your mom and dad because one day you might be one and your kids will look at you like you see your own parents. -Quadruple check the stencil the tattoo artist will use on you. Check for typos â" âAngelâ can easily come out âangleâ. Sanskrit characters you think say âstronger, higher, fasterâ might really be saying âI have three boobs.â -Think about the fact that the tattoo removal business is a growth industry â" and Iâm told itâs twenty-times more painful removing then getting. One man had his children go with him to witness the painful tattoo removal process in hopes to deter. A new establishment in my town to remove tattoos was interestingly named, âWhat Were You Inking?â -Buy some tattoo concealing cream for emergencies. If you are around people who sport them, there is requisite tattoo etiquette. Just smile and with respect say, âI like your tattooâ or âTell me about your tattoo.â Donât touch it (thatâs sort of like patting a pregnant womanâs stomach). And donât say: -youâre going to regret that in five years -thatâs ugly -why would you do that to your body? -what do your parents think? -is that a tramp stamp? -are you on drugs or are you just stupid? -I know someone who can remove that for you I do like one millennial friends comment to me, âScars are tattoos with better stories.â

3 Tips To Balance Back To School And Work Schedules
3 Tips To Balance Back To School And Work Schedules Its that time of year again, when the start of the school year starts adding complications to your family/work schedule. A home with school age children is one that has a lot of similarities to white water rafting: periods of calm followed by raging rapids where you are just hoping to keep your head above water until you reach the end of the ride. Its fun and exhilarating but better when you are prepared! Here are 3 of the best tips for the season: Get advice from those whove been there. Posts like Tips For Balancing Work And Family usually are written by the experienced. There are a lot of options for advice, and its a good idea to skim the offerings with the idea of getting a perspective rather than seeing them as a list of things you must do. Just like you dont eat everything at an all-you-can-eat buffet, you dont try to personally implement every piece of advice you read. Get an idea of what you are in for. Sit down with everybody at the table with the calendar and map out the school year with all the info you have right now. Some families use color coding for every member or activity so it is seen at a glance whats up in the week ahead. Put in the regular stuff, too, so you arent accidentally planning a double whammy for your day. This is where you get a visual of what too much to do looks like and hopefully discuss how transportation will work and see that something might have to be edited out. Many families have found that they need to allow only ONE extracurricular activity per member. Get margins written into your schedule. The empty space is what allows you to read the words on this page, and the empty space in your schedule allows you to have time to breathe and connect. People need to have times where they just relax and putter and do whatever they like to do. Its like recharging your batteries for the next round, or the calm water before the next rapids. The ability to bring your whole focus into the workplace depends on your ability to relax about whats happening at home. Getting the family schedule wisely worked out with all the factors plus margins for emergencies and recharging allows you to keep your mind on your job while you are there.

Reviews of Monster Resume Writing Services - How Helpful Are They?
Reviews of Monster Resume Writing Services - How Helpful Are They?Is it true that having lots of reviews of Monster Resume Writing Services is worthless? The answer is a definite no. If you have done a little research and gathered reviews from respected sources, then you will know that you are getting quality service at a very fair price. A word of caution though - not all reviews are created equal. There are scores of people out there who have written their own resumes for jobs, and they will gladly share their experiences with you. You might also come across some reviews that say the resume is simply not suitable for a job position. Such reviews have a unique impact on your decision to hire the writer. But the reviews from outside are not always valid in judging the quality of the writer. Thus, a number of reviews might have some merit.Best example of reviews which are not worth the while is the review that states that the writer has written better than the competitors. Most often, such a review comes about from the requirement of looking for a particular writer. In such cases, you are far better off taking the opinion of the other writers and trying to find out if the company is working as per their expectations. Some reviews of Monster Resume Writing Services which are taken seriously can even go into the art of creating resumes that are flattering enough to get an interview invitation. Thus, reviewing the resume is a good idea. The best way to judge the quality of the writing is by examining the style of the resume which is being reviewed. Is it professional in style? Are you treated to something that strikes you as being very formal? Does the writer avoid using stock photographs or generic templates? These types of reviews are not very helpful because a resume which is professional in style can easily get you a job. Such a resume is relevant innature and can get you a first interview. These types of resumes are simple in terms of language and can be translat ed easily, thereby increasing the chances of getting hired. It is advisable to review the resume with care before any action is taken. This is the only way to check if the resume matches your expectations and one which are believable. One such review that could help you in hiring the writer is the one that mentions how many times the writer has helped him get a job.By being friendly, professional and helpful, the writer can portray his credentials to you, thereby giving you an idea of his actual results. The more honest you are, the more it becomes likely that you will get a job.

Performance Review Ask This One Question
Performance Review Ask This One Question When youâre heading into your performance review, you probably come armed with a few questions (âWhat am I doing well?â, âIs there anything I could do better?â, âWill I get a raise?â, etc.) It can be nerve-wrackingâ"especially if itâs your first time getting feedback from a work superior. But one surefire way of conquering the review? Know that the transaction is surprisingly tricky for your manager, too. âA managerâs fear, in any performance conversation is that theyâre eroding the fabric of your relationship, or that theyâre not communicating clearly,â says Caroline Ghosn, the co-founder and CEO of the online career community Levo. In order to get the best result from your yearly review, make sure you find a way to get on the same page for the year ahead. One way of doing this is making sure you have a concrete image of what your manager thinks success looks like in the upcoming year. According Ghosn, you can achieve this result by asking, âWhat is the one goal you want me to have achieved at next yearâs review?â Since your manager is coming up with this goal, itâs likely that it will align with their own performance goals. The answer will most likely articulate opportunities that will benefit both your personal development, as well as the larger needs of the company. According to Ghosn, this question will help your manager invest and build trust in you: deciding on, and working towards this goal will assure them that youâre focusing your energy in a way that will benefit them, too. Also, asking this question shows your manager that youâre not actively strategizing an exit plan. It shows youâre intending to be in the same seat next year, are ready to invest your time, and are willing to align your goals with those of the company. Ghosn stresses that this question should be just one of many questions in the conversationâ"feedback about your general performance, the direction of the company, and any negotiations should have already taken place. But this one question will definitely make sure you and your manager are on the same page for your growth, development, and success. This story originally appeared on Real Simple.

Hoping For a Promotion Here, Your Colleagues Will Help You Get One
Hoping For a Promotion Here, Your Colleagues Will Help You Get One Yolanda Swan has worked at the saatkorn company for 20 years, but not because shes afraid of change. In fact, she says shes constantly learning and being challenged, and thats one of the things she loves most about being a Managing Director atAccenture. After earning a BS in Computer Science, she initially joined the firm as a programmer, but she says shes never done the same thing over and over ratzu sich, shes shifted between development, architectural design, performance engineering, and content services.Swan credits much of her success to the fact that shes consistently had mentors to help her navigate her career. At Accenture, she explains, the people you work with become mora friends and family than just coworkers.Accenture is Hiring Browse Opportunities. And while mentorship can sometimes feel like an abstract concept thats never really prioritized in anyones daily office grind, Swans experiences prove that this simply isnt the case where she works. At Accenture, shes forged mentorship relationships both formally and more casually, and she notes that the companys been parteicularly effective in fostering those bonds through employee resource groups that bring together women, moms, and people of color, among other support groups. From a mentee perspective, I remember vividly that I welches part of a womens network in Accentures architecture group, she recalls. There arent necessarily a lot of women in that environment, but we had a womens networking group that helped me develop casual supervision relationships with several partners. Those relationships became crucial, Swan says, when she came back from maternity leave after having her first child.I reached out to several of them and they helped coach me when I had this new dynamic to juggle. I wanted a new project where I wouldnt have to travel constantly, but still wanted to be challenged. Someone said, Yes, I have a role for you in town, a nd you can adjust your schedule as needed.Swan describes this as a pivotal moment in her career, as the shift in position led her to join the digital product gruppe, where, just six months later, she was promoted to be the overall program lead. This door was opened in large part due to Swans relationship with a mentor, and she doesnt take that lightly. In fact, she makes it her mission to pay it forward. Im a woman of color, I also have a family two little boys and a husband and Ive been with the firm 20 years. People ask me, How do you do it? And I want to make sure they understand how I balance it, so Im always looking for opportunities to mentor, she explains.Yolanda SwanOf course, mentorship may not seem like a pressing need for many employees. But Swan articulates one reason why it should be in many cases, mentors can turn into sponsors, who proactively advocate for employees and take tangible steps to advance their careers.Swan, for example, didnt think twice about serving as an informal sponsor for Jessica Hartley, another Accenture employee whom shes mentored. Hartley, who had once been part of Swans team, reached out to her network when she was applying for a new role within the company. Swan happened to know the lead for the group to which Hartley was applying, so she put in a good word. When I spoke to the group lead, he said, Im so happy to have your recommendation, Swan recalls. I can speak on Jessicas behalf and also coach her in the background. Im more privy to things that are going to impact her career, and Im going to be part of those discussions about those who are ready for the next level.Swan adds that now that she has a seat at the table, she tries to make sure leadership is always looking to advance the careers of women and minorities, specifically.Like Swan, Hartley cannot overemphasize how much mentorships have shaped her career. Shes been with Accenture for six years, moving between digital marketing, digital content strategy and emplo yee experience roles. And just a couple of weeks ago, she landed her latest job the one Swan recommended her for as a geschftsleben development director. One of the things that was most exciting to me about coming to Accenture was the possibilities and the potential, Hartley says. fruchtwein of the people you meet here if theyve been here for five or seven years whatever door they came in is probably slightly different, or in some cases very different from what theyre doing now. Its fascinating for me to hear them share their story of how they started out. While Swan has helped to accelerate Hartleys career in a major way, the two dont view their relationship as a formal arrangement rather, they consider themselves friends. Hartley explains that she and Swan initially connected in part over their shared experiences as working moms and women of color in corporate America. While Hartley feels fortunate to have had several effective male mentors throughout her career, she says that s he and Swan were really able to connect on another level. That, to me, was so important and impactful.Perhaps equally important to having mentors within your team is having external mentors who work in different departments or even at different companies. They can help you weigh pros and cons of various decisions with an unbiased perspective, Hartley suggests. At Accenture, shes been lucky enough to work with colleagues who voluntarily offer this kind of support she hasnt necessarily needed to seek it out.She recalls one occasion, for example, a couple of years ago, when she happened to be seated across from Ellyn Shook, Accentures Chief Leadership and Human Resources Officer, at the Grace Hopper tech conference. We chatted about family, life, and kids, and then turned the conversation to work. She said, How are you doing? And I was very honest. I said, I love working for Accenture and I love my team, Hartley remembers, but she did reveal that she was looking for a less travel-heavy role.Shook told Hartley to put time on her calendar, the two met to discuss options, and soon after, Hartley transitioned into Accentures Employee Experience team an internal focus team that helps business units within Accenture to change the way they provide experiences to their people. Hartley is so grateful to have found a new role, without having to move companies, where she was able to use her skillset in a new and different way. If Swans and Hartleys experiences have you itching to find a new work environment specifically one that encourages employees to help one another through career transitions, or to advocate for each others progress youd be wise totake a look at the job openings at Accenture. Theyre hiring all over the country in numerous departments, and no matter where you wind up within the firm, youll be well-positioned to forge connections that will be critical to your career--Fairygodboss is proud to partner with Accenture.
